Vais a bordo del Budapest Express, el famoso tren que recorre Europa, junto con Karine Peaufiner*, una famosa detective francesa originaria de París. Estáis viajando a Budapest para encontraros con otros detectives con los que vais a compartir los últimos avances forenses en escenas del crimen. Es noche cerrada y atravesáis lentamente el corazón de Europa envueltos en una fuerte tormenta de nieve. Estáis revisando notas de casos con Karine y otros colegas en vuestro compartimento. De repente, llaman a la puerta: es el director del tren. Parece preocupado cuando os pide que lo acompañéis rápido al vagón-restaurante de primera clase. Al llegar, veis a un hombre desplomado sobre una mesa del restaurante. ¡Es Sir Clarence Hayden y parece que ha sido asesinado!

El director os dice que el tren llegará a la siguiente estación en una hora. Si para entonces, nadie lo ha atrapado, ¡podrá escaparse en medio de la noche y librarse de un crimen horrible! Vuestra reputación de brillantes detectives os precede, por lo que os pide que resolváis el crimen para que el asesino responda ante la justicia. Podéis ceñir el cerco a cinco sospechosos que fueron vistos en el vagón-restaurante cerca de la hora en que Sir Clarence fue asesinado.

Al veros ir de vagón en vagón recopilando pruebas, el asesino se da cuenta de que estáis muy cerca de atraparlo y decide convertiros en su próximo objetivo. Con vosotros fuera del mapa, podría escapar libremente cuando el tren se detenga. ¡Solucionad los acertijos y los rompecabezas, recopilad las pruebas y resolved el crimen antes de que sea demasiado tarde! ¿Tenéis lo que hay que tener para encontrar al asesino antes de que os encuentre a vosotros? ¡El tiempo apremia!
